Your website can answer questions. Without pretending to be you

The AI Chat Assistant helps visitors with common questions, captures inquiry details and guides them toward the next step, using information about your business that you provide.

The Important Part

What if it says something wrong?

That is the right question to ask, and it deserves a straight answer rather than a reassuring one.

The assistant is not there to make up prices, promise dates, or speak with unlimited authority on behalf of your business. It works from the information you give it, and it can be restricted in what it is allowed to answer at all.

When something needs your judgement, the safest response is not a confident guess. It is to take the visitor's details and let you take over.

Useful when it knows. Careful when it does not.

How It Works

From question to useful next step.

1
Someone starts a chatA visitor asks a question while looking around your site.
2
It checks what it knowsIt answers from the business information it was set up with.
3
It helps where it canCommon questions answered, details collected.
4
You take over when neededAnything needing your judgement comes to you.

What does the visitor actually see?

VisitorDo you install heat pumps in Arlington?
AssistantYes, [Business Name] covers Arlington and does heat pump installation. Would you like to request a quote?
VisitorHow much will it cost?
AssistantPricing depends on the property and the work involved, so I do not want to give you a figure that turns out to be wrong. I can take a few details and have the team follow up.
VisitorSure.
AssistantGreat. What is the best name and number to reach you on?

A useful answer, an honest refusal to invent a price, and a turn towards taking details. That is the shape of a good exchange.

What It Can Do

Let it handle the questions you answer all the time.

Service questionsDo you offer roof repairs?
Service areasDo you cover Richmond?
Opening hoursAre you open Saturday?
How things workHow do I request a quote?
Taking detailsCan someone call me about this?
Next stepsPointing a visitor towards a quote or a call.
What It Is Not

Some answers should still come from you.

Final pricingIt should not invent or guarantee a price, unless you have given it fixed pricing for that exact situation.
Guaranteed availabilityIt should not promise an appointment or a completion date it has no way to verify.
Binding promisesNothing it says should create a guarantee or a commitment on your behalf.
Anything needing judgementComplicated, unusual or sensitive questions go back to you.

The aim is not to make it sound confident about everything. It is to make it useful without giving it more authority than it should have.

When it does not know, it should not pretend.

Not every question has a reliable answer. When the assistant does not have enough information, inventing something is the worst thing it can do.

VisitorCan you guarantee the job will be finished by Friday?
AssistantI cannot confirm scheduling on behalf of the team. I can take your details so they can check availability and come back to you.

Knowing when not to answer is part of a good assistant.

You Stay In Control

Your business. Your information. Your boundaries.

If your services, hours, areas or policies change, the information gets updated. If there are questions you would rather it never touched, those boundaries get tightened.

What it knowsThe business information supplied for it: services, areas, hours, how you work.
What it may answerThe questions and topics you are comfortable automating. Nothing beyond that.
When it hands offThe situations where a person should take the conversation.

Automation should fit your business, not the other way around.

Why It Matters

Three useful things happen before you even reply.

Visitors get answers soonerA common question does not have to wait until you are back at your phone.
More visitors become inquiriesIt can take contact details at the moment someone wants help.
You repeat yourself lessThe same four questions get handled before you join the conversation.

Different contact methods. Different jobs.

The Smart Website responds differently depending on how someone chooses to get in touch:

AI Chat AssistantThey are on your website and start a chat. It answers and can take their details.
Instant Lead Follow-UpThey submit a form. An immediate reply goes out so nobody is left waiting.
Missed Call Text BackThey call and it goes unanswered. A text goes out from your number.
Part Of Smart

The assistant works better as part of the whole response system.

Together, they help your website answer, capture, respond, and show you what is happening.

It handles the first questions. You handle the real relationship.

The assistant can answer, collect and guide. Pricing decisions, job details, what you can promise and when, and the actual sale all stay with you.

Automatic when it helps. Human when it matters.

Questions people ask

What happens if it does not know the answer?
It should not invent one. It can say it cannot confirm that, take the visitor's details, and hand the conversation back to you. That is the behaviour it is set up for.
Can it give customers prices?
Only where you have given it fixed pricing that is safe to quote. For anything needing a look at the property, it collects details instead of guessing at a number.
Can it promise an appointment?
No. It has no reliable view of your diary, so it does not commit to dates or availability on your behalf.
Can it say something inaccurate?
Yes, in principle any AI can. But it is not answering from the open internet. It answers from a knowledge base we build out of your own information and check with you before it goes live, and it is restricted in what it is allowed to touch at all, which is how the risk is kept small. Not zero, and we are not going to tell you it is. If you ever catch it getting something wrong, tell us and we correct it the same day.
Does it pretend to be a real person?
No. It is presented as an automated assistant, not as you or a member of your team.
Can I change what it knows?
Yes. Services, hours, areas, prices, policies. Tell us what changed and we update it.
Can I switch it off?
Yes. It can be narrowed, restricted to fewer topics, or turned off entirely.
Does it replace me talking to customers?
No. It handles the first, routine questions and takes details. The actual relationship, the quote and the decision stay with you.
Is this included on the Managed plan?
It is a Smart feature. Every new website has it switched on for the first 30 days at no extra charge, then it is your choice whether to keep it at $297 a month.

The AI chat assistant is one of the five features that make up the Smart Website. On its own it closes one gap. The five together cover the whole path from a visitor arriving to you knowing what happened.

Every new website launches with all five switched on for the first 30 days, at the Managed price.
